RESPECT YA MUM
Inspired by the legend Sir David Attenborough, Respect Ya Mum was established as a unisex lifestyle clothing brand for anyone and everyone with the purpose of creating awareness about doing our part to be a more sustainable species and giving back to the planet. Respecting Mother Earth, giving as well as taking, our aim is to inspire lifestyle change that will have a long lasting positive impact on the future health of our planet.

Respect Ya Mum was established independently in Australia by Professional Landscape Photographer / Graphic Designer Sarah Hatton, who has seen humanity’s impact first hand through the lens. Combining photography, design, quality clothing, and a personal connection to nature, her goal is to create a profound sense of social awareness, encouraging a clean, more sustainable way of living which includes giving back to the Earth.
As the climate crisis advances, Respect Ya Mum is proud of what the brand represents in terms of a timely social shift for our way of life. Positive sustainable change for the future health of our beautiful, intricate planet is within our grasp. But we have to act now. Our garments are a quality, good-vibes reminder that we can live in harmony with nature, giving as well as taking, for the mutual benefit of both our environment and ourselves. When cooperation replaces exploitation, everybody wins.
We are geared toward positive environmental change. Every garment sold allows us to proudly give back to Mother Earth through our partners ‘1% For The Planet’ & ‘One Tree Planted’ who are both fantastic environmentalist organisations. But when it comes to ‘One Tree Planted’, we do more than their name suggests: for every garment sold, ‘One Tree Planted’ plants FIVE native Aussie trees.

QUALITY NOT QUANTITY: Respect Ya Mum is focused on quality, not quantity. We aren’t fast fashion. Our garments are small batch, organic where possible, and built to last. We are an independent Aussie local business where everything is done by one person; website, social, photography & design etc. (Well, everything except manufacture, that’s done ethically by our organic pals over in India) RYM is the product of a creative soul with a deep connection to nature, compelled to do good with that creativity through a brand that advocates giving back and respecting Mother Earth.
CONSCIOUSLY CRAFTED: We have partnered with our mates over at Yuki Threads, we work with their organic, fair trade supply chain who manufacture in the organic cotton capital of the world, India. Together, we produce premium quality ethical goods that have minimal environmental impact. Our t-shirts are screen printed with eco-friendly inks on custom made GOTS certified organic 100% cotton. Consciously crafted, purposefully good. No nasty pesticides. No nasty dyes. No nasties for the environment and constantly striving to be 100% good for Ya Mum.
WHY GOTS CERTIFIED IS IMPORTANT: GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is a textile production certification that limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other nasties during the production process. To obtain the ‘GOTS Organic’ label, a garment must contain a minimum of 95% organic fibres and not be treated with bleach, formaldehyde or any other horrid substance that is dreadful for the environment. Organic cotton is also longer and stronger than regular cotton, another plus that makes our garments better. We have chosen to go fully organic where possible in our range. All Respect Ya Mum organic cotton t-shirts are proudly GOTS certified.
